Having just celebrated its tenth anniversary as Suffolk's premier visual and performing arts venue, the Suffolk Center boasts a year-round schedule featuring musical performances, theatrical productions, ballet, art exhibits, lectures and galas. A variety of painting, drawing, dance, photography, weaving and pottery classes are also offered for students of all ages.
The first floor of the structure houses Jester's,
a gallery gift shop showcasing local and regional artists. Also located on the first floor, is Mosaic by Hollands, a popular restaurant offering healthy, eclectic, world cuisine designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes.
The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is not just a pretty backdrop for our Suffolk Mystery Authors Festival poster. In fact, the stunning structure was erected in 1922 as Suffolk High School and served students and teachers until 1990. A task force was assembled in 1998 to
re-purpose the then-empty school, transforming it once and for
all into an exquisite repository for the arts. After years of raising funds, strategizing adaptive-reuse tax credits and garnering municipal support, the former Suffolk High School reopened as the
state-of-the-art Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts in 2006.
