In January 2022, Thomas Kies was Edgar Award-nominated by the Mystery Writers of America specifically for the Sue Grafton Memorial Award for his book, Shadow Hill, his fourth novel in the Geneva Chase Mystery Series.
His first book, Random Road, was given a starred review and was debut of the month in the Library Journal and named debut of the month. It sold out of its first hard copy printing before its launch date. Publishers Weekly said of his second thriller, Darkness Lane, "Kies neatly balances breathless action with Geneva Chase's introspection and sleuthing savvy."
Graveyard Bay garnered this review in the New York Journal of Books: "When it comes to gritty, real-life plots, believable characters, and on-point descriptions of both people and place, Thomas Kies can't be beat."
Whisper Room, the fifth book in the series, was released in August. Publishers Weekly said, "Readers will hope to see a lot more of the down-to-earth Geneva—Sara Paretsky fans will find much to like."
